A Shroud of Thoughts 4th Anniversary

As hard as it is to believe, it was four years ago today that the first entry of A Shroud of Thoughts was published. Through it all, I've managed at least three posts a week. That having been said, I won't guarantee that every one of those posts were good...

For those of you wondering where the title of the blog comes from, I took it from Lord Byron's Childe Harold's Pilgrimage canto iii stanza 113, which is quoted below:

I have not loved the world, nor the world me;
I have not flattered its rank breath, nor bow'd
To its idolatries a patient knee,
Nor coin'd my cheek to smiles, nor cried aloud
In worship of an echo; in the crowd
They could not deem me one of such; I stood
Among them, but not of them; in a shroud
Of thoughts which were not their thoughts, and still could,
Had I not filed my mind, which thus itself subdued.

As to the nom de plume I have always used on this blog, it is the Middle English form of Mercury (it can be seen in Chaucer's works, and it survived into Early Modern English to be seen in Shakespeare as well).

As is my custom on the blog's anniversary, I have compiled a list of what I consider to be the best posts of the past year, the "Greatest Hits," if you will. They follow below:

Congrats, Merc! Your blog is always full of interesting stuff. I've been doing this almost four years myself.

Congratulations on the anniversary. I'll be hitting the four year mark for the blog in August, but the Toobworld concept has been online since 1997.

I hope your enthusiasm for the project never fades, since it's always a daily stop on my web tour!

Congratulations Mercurie!

I may not always comment but I always enjoy and appreciate reading your well constructed and thought out posts. It's a joy. I really find you're one of the great writers in the blogosphere. More folks should be reading your posts!

Again, congratulations! Here's hoping for another 4 great years!

Who knew there were so many fourth anniversaries in the offing? Mine will also be this August and I think it is quite a feat for us all in such a fleeting medium.

Congrats to you and I hope you continue to enjoy sharing your ideas.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. It is hard to believe so many of our blogs are going on four years, especially when I believe I read once the average lifespan of a blog is one day!

Congrats and thanks for giving me a lot of good posts to read over the weekend. I don't know how long I've been reading this blog-- over a year though. and the posts have always been good, even if I had no idea who you were writing about--you introduced me to a lot of new people & power pop music too.
Thanks!

I'm impressed with the Lord Byron. (I always meant to read him outside of what we touched on at school)
