That makes me sad, as I don't think I'm alone in saying Hollywood's best days are long past.

Toby, I had not thought of it, they could have had Barbara Streisand sing during the In Memoriam. I would have still had the urge to mute my TV set, but at least they could have included many more people.Terence Towles Canotehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18397088843628331615noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7210602.post-68954780965065121852013-02-27T00:14:08.050-06:002013-02-27T00:14:08.050-06:00I didn't find this out until after the ceremon...I didn't find this out until after the ceremony, but the focus on 'Chicago' was probably less about the anniversary and more of a "self-abration" of the Oscar producers who also produced the movie.

And it was wrong to give that final slot to Hamlisch just because he also wrote that song. She should have been singing it through the whole montage and that way more time could have been given to including others. But no, they held off until after the montage so that Streisand could hog the spotlight. It had nothing to do with the departed stars and was instead all about her. blergToby O'Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06999037844031101965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7210602.post-31939631425418511432013-02-27T00:13:49.100-06:002013-02-27T00:13:49.100-06:00I didn't find this out until after the ceremon...I didn't find this out until after the ceremony, but the focus on 'Chicago' was probably less about the anniversary and more of a "self-abration" of the Oscar producers who also produced the movie.

And it was wrong to give that final slot to Hamlisch just because he also wrote that song. I noticed, quite a few years ago, how the awards ceremony seemed to "forget" about old Hollywood in favor of shoving the "new breed" of actor/movies down the public's collective throat.

It's a shame, really, as those older actors/movies had so much more class and originality to them.

I haven't watched the awards in years and, from reading your review, I don't think I'm missing much.

Well done!Mark Meanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08029920604932980141noreply@blogger.com
